What is SkinPen?
Improving fine lines, acne, and surgical and traumatic scars, the SkinPen (both with a plasma facial and without) also improves skin tone and loose skin. By moving a micro-needling device over the surface of your skin, your Rivela Plastic Surgery aesthetician will, with minimal discomfort, create just the right amount of micro-injury to be perceived by the body as micro-damage eliciting your body’s own natural response to trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your body will rejuvenate itself without the downtime associated with other more aggressive treatments. The effects of SkinPen rejuvenation can go on for months after treatment so change can be both immediate (in 6 to 8 days) and improve over time. A series of treatments with the SkinPen or a plasma facial in Houston is usually recommended to achieve optimal results.
The SkinPen® is a fractional micro-needling device with a unique spring-loaded disposable needle tip that uses an automated, vibrating stamp-like motion that enhances results while offering a more controlled and safer method of treatment than other micro-needling devices, all while causing less epidermal damage. The SkinPen’s multiple, vibrating needles pierce the skin several hundred times per minute to enhance rejuvenation and is far safer than other methods because the SkinPen® is fully adjustable, it is easier to treat delicate areas around the nose and eyes.

Before either of these plasma facial treatments, one of our trained medical staff will draw a small amount of your blood from your arm (just as they would in your general practitioner’s office) and place it in a centrifuge to extract growth factors. In a PRP Plasma Facial, this concentration of growth factors from your own blood is combined with a patented hyaluronic dermal filler and then injected into the areas of your face where you have noticeable expression lines, wrinkles, or drooping with a dermapen.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second generation to Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and is an all-natural solution that can treat areas using technology to extract more of your body’s growth factors and no preservatives. Because it has more growth factors and no preservatives PRF is considered the “gold standard” or best treatment for a plasma facial.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is still available and is slightly less expensive and has one advantage. Because PRP contains preservatives, if there is any leftover, the patient can reapply to boost their treatment.
What to Expect After SkinPen and Plasma Facial
After a SkinPen treatment with a plasma facial, you will see an immediate improvement in major fold lines, as well as smoothing and tightening of the skin. In the days and weeks following your treatment, you will see a healthier glow emerge as blood flow increases. Ideal Candidates for a SkinPen Treatment with a Plasma Facial
The ideal candidates for a SkinPen treatment with a plasma facial are individuals with any skin tone and type.
However, a SkinPen treatment with a plasma facial is not recommended to individuals prone to cold sores, because the procedure might cause a breakout. It is also not ideal for people who have active acne, rosacea, facial eczema, or a poor wound-healing history. If you have undergone skin radiation in the past year, it is best to avoid this treatment option.

It helps to avoid activities that involve excessive heat and sweating for at least 72 hours after the procedure to prevent irritation, bruising, or swelling.
